Event Details:
Summer Writing Course for WPWP Fellows
Writing:
Variations on a Theme, taught by Lois Williams
Join us for four relaxing summer afternoons of writing. Lois will teach a short course geared to refreshing our imaginations and creating new pieces of work in prose and in poetry. Taking our cue from the world of music, we’ll focus on finding the themes in our lives that give us occasion to write. From there, we’ll explore those themes in a variety of directions and forms, giving plenty of attention along the way to craft and to our enjoyment of the creative process. Come prepared to daydream a little, draft a lot, and compose your own manuscript of variations. Click here for the flyer.

Time: 1:00-3:30 p.m.
Location: University of Pittsburgh, Room 358 Cathedral of Learning

Advanced Summer Institute for WPWP Fellows
Teaching Writing in the Era of No Child Left Behind
Led by Amanda Godley
This weeklong advanced summer institute is designed for WPWP fellows who would like inquire into and reflect upon what it means to teach writing well in the era of NCLB and high-stakes testing. The institute addresses the questions: How do we implement best practices in teaching writing as we prepare students for standardized writing assessments? How can writing on demand (timed writing) be taught using process writing techniques? Click here for the flyer.
Dates: July 21-25, M-F. Participants will also attend one follow up session in December 2008.
Time: 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Location: University of Pittsburgh, Room 340 Cathedral of Learning
Cost: $250
Credits: 35 Act 48 Continuing Professional Education hours
